Since childhood, I have always had a fondness for having my hands in the earth. I was lucky to be born into a family of gardeners – it’s just simply in our blood. But I was also born and raised in the city, and will always feel connected to urban life. I am lucky to call Portland, Oregon, home – a city that seems to allow both sets of values to coexist.

I believe that eggs don’t grow in cardboard cartons and produce doesn’t sprout from the grocery store shelves. I’m making an attempt at straddling both desires by building a small food forest right here in my urban backyard, complete with some hip urban chickens. Join me for the trials and triumphs. There is certainly joy in the journey as much as the destination.
