In Toby Hemenway’s book on permaculture, Gaia’s Garden, he has a chapter called “Pop Goes the Garden”. I could only hope and pray that all the time and money spent would lead to at least some things living. But man – he was right!
I just had to share some recent pictures of my hard labor coming to fruition. I am including pictures of my scraggly pea-tee pee that is slowly getting covered with snap and snow peas.
If I keep shoving seeds in the ground that the chickens don’t eat, I am afraid I might be overrun. I don’t know what I was thinking, but I plugged in two zucchini plants. Usually one is enough for all your friends and family. The girls are getting pretty fat and sassy off gobbling up what they can find, so that might not be a problem afterall. When I consider the egg supply we’re getting, though, I consider it all a fair trade π

try a stir-fry with the radishes cut into thin little strips. they don’t need too much saute time to get slightly soft, but they add a nice zing!

You can also add radishes to stews. I love root vegetable stew, made with potatoes, carrots, turnips, rutabegas, etc. with radishes. You can use the greens as well, just add them toward the end of the cooking time. Cooking mellows radishes out so this is a good place to use those that are too hot to eat plain.
